Much
of the interior mechanism of the pipe organ is made of wood.
Schantz organs employ only the highest grades of lumber to
guarantee the mechanism will be long lasting. Interior woodwork
and windchests are made from yellow poplar, selected for
its structural strength and dimensional stability. Exposed
casework is constructed of a variety of wood species selected
to match the woodwork of the space in which the instrument
will be installed.
Excellence in woodworking skill is essential to achieve both the
proper mechanical operation of the instrument, as well as yield
an attractive, finished, cabinet-grade woodworking for visual elements
(casework) present in many modern pipe organ designs.
